"He looked, looked away — but couldn't stop himself and looked again. Too late: poison had entered the heart through the eyes. And neither duty nor knowledge could save him."
Young Ajamila went into the forest for firewood and, for a moment, saw what he shouldn't have — a scene of drunken indulgence. He looked away. But he couldn't help it and looked again, just once. He gathered his wood and left. Too late: the poison had already entered his heart through the eyes. At home those images returned again and again, and he could think of nothing else. He tried to bury himself in work and duty — it didn't work. He recalled wise teachings — they didn't help. One glance, one second of "pleasure" — and his whole life went off the rails. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu shows the law: enjoyment that enters as sweetness far too often stays inside as venom.
Notice what you let in through the eyes — it stays far longer than a second.
