"Drink coffee and the mind jumps here and there — phone, computer, fifteen tabs open, all at once. In that scattered state you can't understand who you really are."
You know the morning: barely awake, and your hand is already reaching for coffee. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu points out that coffee injects rajas, passion — and the mind instantly starts leaping from place to place, faster and faster. There's the ordinary state of our attention: phone, computer, fifteen tabs open, and you're still eating breakfast. It feels like you're getting a lot done — yet the mind is simply split into fifteen pieces, and not one of them is really yours. In that rattling state it's impossible to feel the one thing that matters most: the one who stands quietly behind all the racing and watches. The first step is simply to stop opening new tabs in the mind.
Today — one thing at a time, without the fifteen open tabs.
