"Mātsarya is a burning at the sight of another's prosperity: he is more beautiful, more clever, more wealthy. Yet all these worldly metrics are worth nothing — a material mind just deems them important."
Someone in the feed got a promotion, bought a flat — and instead of joy, something inside tightens and burns. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu calls it mātsarya and opens the root: the word is kin to mātsya, fish. The big fish in a pond can't bear the little ones growing up, so it swallows them just for daring to grow. In the same way, it isn't another's misfortune that burns us but their success: he is more beautiful, more clever, more wealthy — by the ruler we ourselves called important. And that ruler, the lecture says, is worth nothing. It is a weakness of the heart, hṛdaya-daurbalya; it heals not by catching up with the other, but as the heart fills and grows steady — then another's success stops burning you.
When another's success burns you, check whose ruler you're holding.
