"For the soul, being in the material world is like a fish out of water — it can never feel joy. The fish needs its own element, its true nature. And so does the soul."
Take a fish out of the water and lay it on the shore — on the softest sand, in the most beautiful spot. It will thrash and gasp: not because the sand is bad, but because it isn't its element. A fish lives and rejoices only in water — that's its nature. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu says it's the same with us. We are the soul, a spiritual being, yet we cling only to the body, the mind, the material world. And so something is always missing inside, we're somehow short of breath, no matter how much good surrounds us. Caring for body and family matters — but the soul won't be satisfied by it, just as the fish won't revive on the finest sand. It needs its water: a life connected to God.
Ask not "what else can I add?" but "where is my water?"
