"Sense gratification comes automatically in every form of life — even animals and insects enjoy their senses. Whatever is allotted in a given birth is fixed: whether you look for it or not, it is the same."
Almost every plan for a life is built around one thing: more of the pleasant, less of the unpleasant. Work, city, people are chosen for that. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu answers calmly, almost like an accountant. Sense enjoyment exists in every form of life: an ant, a bird, a dog — each enjoys in its own way. And in whatever body you find yourself, your share is already measured out; it comes by the movement of time and the law of karma, whether you look for it or not. But something falls to no one on its own — not on the highest planet, not on the lowest: niḥśreyasa, the ultimate good of life. An intelligent person, the lecture says, spends his effort on that alone. Why work for something that is coming anyway?
Ask of your effort: will this come by itself — or only if I go for it?
