"A person feels sure: "I am this body." But that's like a driver thinking, "I am a Toyota." You're not a Toyota. It's just a vehicle — and after a few years you change it."
Picture a driver so fused with his car that he says, in all seriousness: "I am a Toyota." He's forgotten he's merely behind the wheel. Funny? Yet almost every one of us lives exactly like that, Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu says. We feel sure: "I am this body, I am male or female, young or old." The feeling is strong, almost instinctive — but it's a mistake, just like that driver's. The body is only a car you ride for a few years, then it's changed: birth, old age, death, and the soul moves into a new one, again and again. But you, the one who looks out through the eyes and steers, don't age or break down with the chassis. You're not a thing that wears out — you're the one who drives.
Today, at least once, tell yourself: "I'm not the car — I'm the one who drives."
