"The thoughts overwhelm you because you chant too quietly and don't listen. Chant really loudly — and they can't hold on. Just let the Name sound."
A simple, practical tip — and you can try it this very day. Are thoughts overwhelming you when you chant the Name? Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu says it's usually because you chant too quietly and half-heartedly, not really listening to yourself. In that silence the mind wanders wherever it likes. So try the opposite — say the Name aloud, clearly, at full voice: "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare!" And notice: as long as the sound fills you and you truly hear it, stray thoughts have nowhere to squeeze in, they can't hold on. No need to fight them or get angry at your mind. You only have to let the Name sound louder than they are. They leave, they return — louder again.
Thoughts won't leave? Don't fight them — just say the Name aloud, louder.
