"The conclusions of the Vedas hold everything, from metaphysics to the question of beauty — and the final conclusion lies right there. Beauty is beyond argument: you see something beautiful and you stop calculating."
Arguing about God convinces almost no one: every point meets a counter-point, and both keep what they held. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu turns instead to Dostoevsky: "Only beauty can save the world." The Vedas' conclusions, he says, hold everything from metaphysics to the question of beauty — and the final conclusion lies right there, in relishing beauty. Why? Beauty is beyond argument. Faced with a proof, the mind defends itself, hunting for an objection. See something beautiful — light spilling over water, a child's face — and you calculate nothing: for a second you simply stand still. Truth the heart takes after a fight; beauty it lets in at once. And so the supreme quality of God, he says: Sri Beauty.
Today notice what stopped you — and ask whose beauty that was.
