"He closed his eyes and began to remember the lotus feet of Krishna. Because he's not singing for them. Kirtan is not for others. Kirtan is only for Krishna."
It can feel like your rounds only matter when someone hears them — a roommate, your guru, the satsang — and without a witness the voice slackens and the effort fades. Namdev was not invited for an ordinary evening: a vast tent was built, the finest musicians gathered, thousands stood waiting for his voice. He walked onto the stage and closed his eyes, because he was not singing for them: kirtan is not for others, kirtan is only for Krishna. The crowd before him dissolved into shadow, and only the inner light of the lotus feet remained. So it is with you on your rounds: no one is counting your repetitions or judging the sound — let the room around you darken, and let only the Name remain before you.
Today close your eyes on your rounds and sing only for Krishna — let the room disappear.
