"See how suddenly humble he is — there's the proof! How did he grow humble all at once, when a moment ago he blazed with offense?"
Both are worn out — Krishna and Radhika alike — and Lalita decides: let them at least meet. "Soften, accept him," she whispers to Radhika. And Krishna approaches — meek as water, wholly in a servant's humble mood. But that is just what Lalita was waiting for: "See how suddenly humble he is — there's the whole proof! Would he grow humble all at once if he were innocent? A moment ago he blazed with offense — and now so meek, so eager to serve Radhika. You know what that means? That he's guilty." Cornered, Krishna overdoes his defense: "No, no, no! I am ever the most humble, always in the mood to serve Radhika. Why, all my avatars serve her tirelessly! Look, Matsya the fish serves your eyes — as quick and darting as fish in the water." He is merely bragging to impress. So his every defense turns against him — and in that lies all the sweetness of the game.
Before the Name, simply serve and chant, with no excuses.
