"Radhika flees the bee straight into Krishna's arms — and he embraces her and whispers: thank you, dear bee, for helping me."
In Vraja even the bees and bumblebees are given their own service in the lilas of Radha and Krishna. Krishna lifts his flute to the flowering bushes and wonders in which key to play — and just then a bumblebee flies up and hums him the melody: play it like this. "Thank you, dear bee," Krishna says. And sometimes Radhika takes offence at something, turns and walks away. At once the bee flies up, begins to circle right at her face and frighten her. Radhika fights it off, runs from it — and hides straight in Krishna's arms, and he embraces her and again thanks the bee for its help. And sometimes, when Radha and Krishna withdraw into a secret kunja, a whole swarm of bees gathers and hovers right at the entrance. Why? They are taking precautions: should Chandravali's friends, her rivals, set out to search for Krishna, they will never peer into the kunja at whose entrance so huge a swarm is droning.
Give the Name even a small breath — in Vraja no role is too tiny.
