"Jai Madhava! Get out. You spent the whole night in another gopi's kunj — so go back to her. Her hair must be dishevelled; go and comb it, O Keshava."
The night is nearly spent, dawn is about to break — and Krishna, who has passed the whole of it in another gopi's kunj, comes to Radhika's very door. She will not let him even cross the threshold. "Jai Madhava! — she throws at him. — Get out. Leave this place." And at once she turns his name against him: Madhava, the husband of Lakshmi the goddess of fortune. "That gopi was so fortunate tonight, she is your lucky one — so go back to her, to your Madhava." Every glorious name she makes into a blade. "Jai Keshava!" Keshava, the one who arranges and braids the hair. "After her night's play with you her braids must be all undone — so go back and comb that girl's hair." And before he can speak a word in his defence: "I don't want to hear your lies." She praises him — and wounds with every praise; all the tenderness on her lips is honed to an edge.
Keep the Name on your lips: even in anger, she called him by his Names.
