"Do not be upset, Radhika: Krishna is not meeting another heroine — that is your own beauty shining, reflected upon his chest."
Radhika sits beside Krishna — and suddenly her face darkens, clouds over. It seems to her that right there, before her very eyes, he is delighting in another beautiful woman! "How shameless he is," she thinks, and turns away. Then Vishakha leans close to her: "Do not grieve, Radhika. Krishna is meeting no other — that is your own beauty reflected upon his chest." For Radhika's beauty is lavanya: not beauty alone, but a radiance like a pearl's, that glows with a soft aura from within. It streams out wave upon wave and drops its glow on all around, and everything near begins to shine with her own beauty. And Krishna's chest is so dark and pure that it catches that glow like a mirror — and Radhika, never guessing, has taken her own radiance for a rival and flared with jealousy at her very self. The lovelier she is, the brighter her own form gazes back at her from his chest.
Gaze into the Holy Name closely: Radhika herself shines back from it.
