"Sometimes He disguises Himself as a boatman. And when a gopī is taking a boat across the river, then halfway through He stops rowing, and begins to negotiate a very high price to complete the journey. She cannot afford it, so she will have to pay in services."
Another time He saw a gopī entering the forest — and He had an idea. He put on a costume: a ferocious beast with big claws and big fangs and furry ears. He waited on the path just a little ahead of where she was coming. She walks on, He jumps out. She screams and turns around to run back the other way. Then He quickly takes off the costume, runs very fast in a wide semicircle, and appears there all of a sudden: it's safe now. And He adds: you are so lucky that I just happened to be walking along here at this exact moment. And that gopī said: oh Kṛṣṇa, it is true, you have saved my life — how can I ever repay you?
Today's rounds to the One who has already arranged the meeting.
