"There's one theory called the watchmaker theory. Just like a watchmaker, he makes a watch and he winds it up, then puts it on the table and goes away. … So God is not like that: everywhere, in every atom at all times."
Many quietly carry this picture: God once set the world going, laid down the laws — and now it all runs by itself while He is far off. Tidy to the mind, but cold. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu calls it the watchmaker theory: the craftsman builds the watch, winds it, sets it on the shelf and walks away. Like a father who "pops out a baby and then leaves." But God is not like that. In Sanskrit — abhinna-nimitta-upādāna: He is not only the maker but the very fabric of the world. He is everywhere, in every atom, at all times. The world does not coast on an old winding — it is held right now. Then why don't we feel it? "It is only our ignorance that covers our experience of that." He has not left — the veil is in us.
He did not wind it and leave. He is holding this breath — now.
