"The material ego is always incomplete, and no number of soulmates can ever complete it. It's a built-in function: however much it gets, satisfaction never comes."
Somewhere inside, everyone believes: once I meet my other half, I'll be whole and life will come together. The girl looks for the boy, the boy looks for the girl; surely together we'll overcome every trouble and store up happiness for a lifetime. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu doesn't argue with wanting a pair — he shows the catch. It isn't that the partner is wrong or not yet found. The false ego, ahaṅkāra, is built to stay incomplete, and no number of soulmates can ever fill it. However much it gets, the built-in "still not enough" won't leave. That's why two people, once joined, so often lose the promised happiness: each waited for the other to close a lack that by its very nature cannot be closed from outside.
Over your beads, ask: what am I waiting for another to give — can it really come from outside?
