We call two weeks of holiday a year happiness. The fire kept burning the whole time — we were simply given a short break

"This world is like a blazing forest fire — old age, disease, death and war attack without respite. There's a little break: maybe two weeks holiday a year. But that is only a little pause in the suffering."
The whole year rests on two weeks. We wait for the holiday, and come back counting months to the next one. Soberly seen, the world is a blazing forest, where every creature runs trying to escape. The fire of old age, disease, death and war strikes without respite. Two weeks by the sea is a short break inside that fire — nobody put it out. Patanjali says: duḥkham eva sarvaṁ vivekinaḥ — to one who can discriminate, suffering is visible everywhere. A person without that sensitivity misses even the pain of others. A yogi sees it inside happiness too: we enjoy, so we become attached, and then it is only a question of time before it is lost. Happiness itself is the preface to an encyclopedia of pain.
One round — instead of a break, look for what does not burn.
