"Ask an old man his age: seventy-four. Yet inside he feels the same as he did at twenty. The body ages, but the "I" is unchanged — because the atma is beyond time, kālātīta."
Look in the mirror. The face is older than it was — lines, grey hair, a body long since changed from the one you had at twenty. Yet the one who looks out from inside feels the same. The body changed without pause, but the sense of "I" hasn't moved an inch. How is that possible? Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu offers an image. You sit on a plane and feel you aren't moving — while a man on the ground watches you streak across the sky. You can notice motion only from a still point. In the same way you notice time flowing only because you aren't inside the stream: you watch time from outside it. That is what it means that the soul is kālātīta, beyond time. The body races through the years, and you stand and watch.
The body ages — the one who watches is outside time.
