"At first it will not be natural. Just keep the habit — bow down, offer a flower and a candle, chant peacefully every day. Be patient, and this feeling of devotion will sneak up and catch you from behind."
We wait for inspiration: once the mood comes, then I'll begin. With prayer and beads we keep postponing — not today, I'll start later. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu turns this around: at first it will not be natural. Build the habit: every day bow to the image, offer a flower and a candle, sit and chant the Name peacefully. Do it not because you feel drawn to it, but because you know it is good for you. This steady, unforced daily practice is called sādhana. And if you are patient, one day something strange happens: the feeling arrives on its own. You do not squeeze it out by effort — it sneaks up and catches you from behind, by surprise. It is a power of an altogether different order. So begin small, but every day.
Don't wait for the pull — build the habit; the pull will catch up on its own.
