"— Stop, don't go in! — Krishna spread his arms, but they ran past him. — My friends, what will become of you now?"
Even Krishna himself does not know that he is God: Goloka Vrindavan is a place of pure love, where they take Lord Narayan to be God. Krishna's parents perform arati, and when the little one fidgets they chide him: "Stop squirming, come and watch the arati". It never occurs to them that before them stands the Supreme Lord. And now the boys rush toward the mouth of Aghasura — a colossal serpent — and Krishna cries out: "No, no, stop, don't go into that mouth!" He spreads his arms to hold his friends back, but some run around to the right, some to the left, some slip between his legs. He cannot stop them. He turns — and before his very eyes they all vanish into the serpent's throat. Tears well up in Krishna's eyes, separation pierces him: "My friends — Madhumangala, Subala, Sridama, Stoka-Krishna and all the rest — are you going to die? What will become of you now?" And Krishna weeps. And then Yogamaya lifts the veil from his knowledge and lets him remember: "Why are you afraid? You can defeat this demon".
Call out when helpless — the veil falls at the darkest moment.
