Early morning in the kunja. Radha and Krishna have been together all night; now they begin to wake in each other's arms — but they do not want to part, and so this morning is bittersweet: still a meeting, yet already the ache of the parting that must come. It is time for mangala-arati. And the manjaris have lain down to rest right there, in the courtyard of the kunja — only for a few moments; and even in their sleep they were still serving Radha and Krishna. Then some manjari suddenly opens her eyes — and the first thing she feels is fear: "Oh! Did I oversleep? Did I miss the chance to serve?" She looks around — and sees: no, she is not late. What relief! The first relief of the morning. Then she wakes her guru, Rupa Manjari, touches her feet, and one by one they all wake; they take up the articles for the morning seva and hurry to the kunja. How beautiful they are in that moment!
