"Prana-priyatam, dearer to me than my life! Your feet have walked a long way through the forest — set them here a moment, and I will rub them and take your tiredness away."
Krishna brings out chatu — the sweetest, most flattering words, anything to coax her. "Your feet are soft," he says, "but look: the petals on this bed of flowers are soft too, and grown proud of it. Shame their pride — set your feet here, just for a moment. Radhika, you have come, prana-priyatam, dearer to me than my life! Your tender lotus feet have walked such a long way through the forest — how tired you must be. Let me, just for an instant, rub your feet and take away your weariness." And little by little, Krishna speaks of himself: "I am your servant. I am Narayana." Why would he call himself Narayana? Nara means water, ayana means resting upon the waters: come, enter the ocean of love, where the weary one is made fresh. The Lord himself has bent to her feet, and his words are so charming that she takes a step, then another — though she is contrary still.
He himself comes to serve — chant the Name, and he will bend to you.
