"You are the original, and I am only the reflection. You are the real Krishna, not I — for you have attained what I myself have not."
Radha and Krishna are playing at dice, and Radhika wins again and again. By the wager Krishna must give up his Kaustubha-mani — the chief jewel on his chest, the very gem that came to him not by right of birth. Kundalata lifts the chain with the stone from Krishna's neck and fastens it upon Radhika — and now Krishna's Kaustubha shines in the middle of Radha's breast. Krishna looks at his own jewel — and sees his own face reflected in it. "O pratibimba, reflection! — he says. — But no: you are the original, and I am only the reflection. You are the real Krishna, not I. For you have attained the highest destination that I myself have not". So the Supreme Lord, gazing into his own royal jewel upon his beloved's breast, declares her the first and himself the second. The very emblem of his greatness becomes the mirror of his humility — and he is glad to lose.
Let the Name be the original, and you its reflection.
