"All night I waited for you — why did you disappoint me? I dressed up, I had so many plans, and you ruined them all. Why didn't you come?"
Krishna was late for the tryst — and not merely late: he had been with her rival, Chandravali. So on his way to Radhika he invents a foolproof excuse. "We agreed to meet in the Kesha-kunja," he reasons. "But kesha flowers are of two kinds: bakula — where we truly arranged to meet — and naga-kesha, the snake-flower. I'll gather naga-kesha and declare I waited for her in the Kesha-kunja all night — it was she who got confused and went to the wrong place." For to win, you must be first to accuse the other of the very thing you are guilty of. With a bundle of snake-flowers he shows up at dawn. Lalita had barely opened her mouth to scold him when Krishna gets in first: "What is this?! All night I waited for you — why did you disappoint me? I dressed up, I had so many plans, and you ruined them all. Why didn't you come?" And at once, his proof: "Look: the naga-kesha flowers, honey dripping from them — they weep in pity for poor me, who sat alone the whole night. Even the flowers are crying — look what you have done to me!"
Drop the schemes — call the Name as you are.
