"You secretly love a hero, having breathed a word to no one. He steps right up: "You are so beautiful!" — then you see he was speaking to the woman standing behind you."
Krishna plays his flute and calls his cows by name: "Shyamali! Dhavali! Pishangi! Kalindi!" He has a cow named Kalindi — and so is named the goddess of the river, the Yamuna herself. So when "Kalindi!" floats across the water, the Yamuna startles: he is calling me. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu says: imagine you secretly love a great hero and have breathed a word to no one. Then one day he steps right up to you and says, "You are so beautiful." Your heart leaps — and then you realise he was speaking to the woman standing behind you. Everything inside you sinks. So it is with the Yamuna: she heard her own name, she reached toward it — but the cow is already running to the call, and the river understands he was not calling her. That is why small waves run across the Yamuna: she trembles with disappointment, "Alas, alas, Krishna is not coming to me." And this too is mahabhava: one who loves with the highest love sees her own love in everything — even the quiet river is secretly in love with him.
Chant the Name like one in love, and all around will call to him.
