Rāmānanda's second answer stands higher than the first, and Gurudeva shows exactly how. Varṇāśrama offered up completed duties, and offered them to Viṣṇu; here Kṛṣṇa asks for everything — eating, drinking, sleeping, every bodily necessity, nothing left outside the frame of duty. More is given. And still Mahāprabhu answers with the same refrain: this is external, tell me something more. Look at your own open palm held out before you: the fruit of your work is lying on it. The fruit is offered — the hand has stayed yours. What He wants is not the basket of results but the one holding it.
