"There is one indescribable characteristic of these sakhīs: they never desire to directly enjoy pastimes with Kṛṣṇa. When Kṛṣṇa is not in their presence they feel separation … but when they meet, if Kṛṣṇa tries to touch them, they complain and protest."
The sakhīs bring Kṛṣṇa to where Rādhikā waits, arrange the meeting — and step aside. He embraces her, and in that moment they are in complete ecstasy. Gurudeva warns plainly against misreading it: the sakhīs are in mādhurya-rasa, they love Kṛṣṇa with a lover's love themselves. When He is away they feel separation and long to see Him; when He is near and reaches to touch them, they protest. The whole of that love goes into bringing Rādhikā to Him. And the happiness that reaches them from her embrace is ten million times greater than if Kṛṣṇa embraced them Himself.
Love's measure is joy at a meeting where I am not present.
