"Whatever is happening in the world and in your mind — stand back and watch it objectively, from the vantage point of the soul. Otherwise the mind churns, you latch on to it, and it takes you along for the ride."
The mind starts up — a grievance, a fantasy, an anxious script — and a second later you are not looking at the thought, you are inside it. Śrī Prem Prayojan Prabhu describes it: the mind churns with emotion or obsession, you latch on, you entertain it, you become absorbed in it, and it takes you along for the ride for years, decades, lifetimes. And he gives one simple move: whatever happens around you, stand back and watch it impartially, from the vantage point of the soul — saksi, the witness. The mind is disturbed, and the soul says, "I feel awful." The mind gets its way, and it says, "I am happy." Both times it is the mind, while the one watching has not moved. That step back is the practice.
A thought arrives — name it aloud and watch it go past.
