You cannot seize the mind by force — the yogis try to control it through pranayama and their own effort, but the mind stays covered like a garment of maya. The gopis did otherwise: they went to bathe in the Yamuna and left their clothes on the bank, and Krishna came and simply stole them. Gurudev says: don't follow the yogis' self-elevation, be like the gopis — surrender, and Krishna Himself will come to steal your mind. The first Hare is not a description but a thief's plea: Oh Krishna, You are a thief, steal my mind, release me from the bondage of material existence. Sit with your beads as if the garment is already gone, and wait for who comes.
